Mountain Creek Park – One of Catawba County’s newest outdoor gems, packed with nearly 19 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails (some bike-only), paddling access to Lake Norman, and an adventure playground for the kids. Plus, a dog park, picnic shelters, and pickleball courts—there’s something for everyone.
Riverbend Park – This 690-acre riverside escape offers peaceful hiking, biking, kayak and canoe launches, plus a beautiful observation deck overlooking Oxford Dam. Open meadows and wildlife viewing make it a perfect spot for family-friendly nature time. Bonus: the calm river access is ideal for beginner paddlers.
St. Stephens Park – Bring your four-legged friend for some off-leash fun in the fenced dog park. Then stroll the paved Literacy Trail, toss horseshoes, or enjoy a short walk through shaded woods. A great choice for young kids, dog parents, and anyone looking for a laid-back escape near the city.
Lake Hickory – Rent a kayak or bring your own to paddle along the scenic shoreline near Geitner Park. Dock at Lake Hickory Pub & Marina, a family-friendly lakeside spot serving boat rentals, gas, ice cream, flatbreads, burgers, cocktails, and stunning waterfront views.
