Every May, Downtown Newton transforms into an open-air gallery for the Foothills Folk Art Festival—a can’t-miss celebration of contemporary folk and fine art from across the Southeast. This family-friendly event brings thousands of visitors to stroll the streets, meet the makers, and shop for pieces you won’t find anywhere else.

Expect everything from vibrant paintings and whimsical sculptures to handcrafted jewelry and playful woodwork. Many of the artists are on-site giving demos, so you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how their work comes to life.
But it’s not just about the art. The festival also features live music throughout the day, hands-on art activities for kids, a beer garden for the grown-ups, and plenty of food from downtown restaurants and food trucks. It’s the perfect mix of creativity, community, and good eats.
Whether you’re a serious collector or just looking for a fun day out, the Foothills Folk Art Festival makes May in Newton a whole lot more colorful.
